Sakana Sushi & Ramen

Sakana Sushi & Ramen

Arvada, Co 80003

I just came back from a trip to Denver Colorado not too long ago and during that trip I had such an amazing time. You know, I love New York City and it’s crazy hustle and bustle but I honestly fell in love with Denver. The pace there is just much more calming, people are nicer and the air is just so damn fresh. Of course I viewed Denver with vacation goggles but I think I could see myself building a life there…

I ate so good during my time there that I wanted to dedicate a few posts on this blog for joints I think are worth your time. Sakana Sushi & Ramen was one of the restaurants that I was recommended to try by a man I met while I was up in Fort Collins, Colorado. My boyfriend and I spent a day working and learning at a Hemp Farm called Fat Pig Society.

If this is something that interests you, I found an amazing blog from the internet that tells you more about their mission. You can click H E R E for the blog post. We spent a day refilling pots with new soil and re-potting hemp plants. (I was having an all over experience being able to touch and plant such a scrutinized PLANT.) Crazy Right?

Molly the chef also made an amazing lunch to help us refuel for the afternoon part of the day. I’m going to create another post about that whole experience in itself because it deserves it’s own post so lets get back to Sakana.

Sakana’s store front is very low key. It isn’t until you walk in that you’re greeted into an almost “nature” themed restaurant. There’s so many accents of wood and green plants around the store which makes you feel like you’re eating the sushi in the wild. This is something that I enjoy because heck, I’m in Colorado a very well known green state. I also loved some of the cutesy industrial styled furniture that was being used around the store. The decor was on point.

Sakana serves up Sushi and Ramen and offers an assortment of drinks ranging from beer, sake, and wine. They have Izakaya styled foods such as their kara-age (fried chicken) and gyoza but also offers a little bit of everything. They don’t stick to just one type of Japanese cuisine but cleverly combines the best of all Japanese foods that Americans love into one simple & concise menu. That I love, because you know how much I love variety in my food 😉

~Here’s a look at their Menu.~

The food was genuinely delicious and the staff was also very nice. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Sakana. If you’re ever in that area and craving real Japanese food. Definitely come here. The quality & taste compares to New York’s Japanese food scene for sure.

If you have any questions or need suggestions on what to eat, comment me or email me and I’ll get back to you with some ideas.

Bari’s Pizza

Bari’s Pizza

8619 4th Avenue,

Brooklyn, NY 11209

I grew up in Brooklyn in an era where old school mom and pop pizzeriass were abundant and flowing. It’s been about a good decade and a half since my first time ordering pizza after school with the allowance that I received from my momma; since then there have been so many artisanal pizza shops that are constantly opening in New York City. The new stores opening are just as good as the old school shops with just a little bit more flare however you can’t deny that the old school pizza shops hold it’s own. The pizza crust at these stores are always thin, the pizza always stringy and the pizza sauce is always juuuust right. Pizza will always be a staple of my diet. Not just any pizza will do though, it has to be New York Pizza. Bari’s Pizza is one of many pizza shops in Brooklyn and as with most pizza shops, they make really really good Italian American styled pizzas. The ingredients are always fresh and they cater to the tastes buds of the community.

Bari’s is nestled in the heart of Bay Ridge Brooklyn in one of the busiest transportation hubs in Bay Ridge. The R train is right in front of the shop as well as several other buses that run from Brooklyn into Staten Island. The people who come to Bari’s is a mixture of MTA bus drivers who come in for a lunch break, families shopping in the neighborhood and just overall the people who live around Bay Ridge. It’s such a convenient place to go to since it’s close to so many transportation routes.

Chicken and Broccoli deep dish slice is my favorite!

They offer both thin crust Brooklyn/NY style slices. If you’re a bit more hungry, they even have their deep dish pizzas which are amazing. The crust is crispy, you get a lot of their toppings in a pizzas slice and the flavors are out of this world!
